A Venue with History

Donington Park Farmhouse is in it’s 5th Generation of family ownership

Donington Park Farmhouse is part of the Donington Estate, which dates back to the 12th century when it was a Royal Park. Queen Elizabeth I was the last monarch to own it before passing it to the Hastings family. You’ll even find the Farmhouse marked on a Derbyshire map from 1576.

The current farm buildings were built in the 1720s as a “model farm.” From 1882 J.G. Shields managed the estate for Lord Donington before purchasing it in 1929—with the help of a rather large loan! His great-grandson, John, has spent years carefully restoring the Farmhouse and transforming it into the welcoming venue it is today.

By 1984, we were hosting Barn Weddings—long before they became popular—making us the UK’s first Barn Wedding Venue! Today, the Shields family continues to care for and develop the estate, keeping its history and traditions alive.

Three centuries of character

Our 300-year-old Threshing Barn has remained almost entirely unchanged—except for the doors, because no one likes a draught! Its timeworn beams, exposed brick, and rustic quirks make it a one-of-a-kind setting for weddings, celebrations, and events.
